Many of the principles of traditional SEO (optimising content for search engines like Google) transfer over to soical media SEO (optimising content for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram). However, some tactics will differ due to the nature of social media platforms, and because their search functions are far less developed than Google’s!
Customers are beginning to use social media sites like Instagram and TikTok as search engines, behaving in a way that they previously would have saved for Google. For example searching Instagram for restaurant recommendations, or researching new foundations to buy on TikTok. This poses an opportunity for brands and businesses to create search-optimised content that can be surfaced on social media channels when a search is made. This increases brand visibility, traffic, and ultimately sales, which is particularly important when sales via channels like traditional search are dropping.
